Sewage treatment plant to be set up in Pallipalayam

ERODE: “Hundreds of textile dyeing industries are discharging their untreated effluents into the Cauvery river. Even the domestic wastewater is let into the river contaminating it to a great extent. So the Pallipalayam Grade III Municipality has planned to set up a sewage treatment plant,” said Chairman E. Mani here on Monday.

He said that there were 21 municipal wards in Pallipalayam Municipality supplying 24-lakh litres of water to the residents besides the over 500 private and 50 municipal borewells. Residents discharged the wastewater into the drains that also let into the river.

Rs. 9 crore allotted

According to Mr. Mani, Rs. 9 crores was granted to the municipality under the National River Action Programme some years back, but the fund had remained idle. Hence steps had been taken to construct a tank to treat sewage.

With the Council’s permission, 21 acres had been purchased in Elandaikuttai village and handed over to the Tamil Nadu Water and Drainage Board for the construction of the sewage tank.

All the sewage would be diverted to Elandaikuttai through big pipelines for treatment. He said that a sanitary complex had been built in Aavarampalayam, but even after six months, it remained unused.

WHETHER THESE FUNDS ARE UTILISED PROPERLY ?

I DONT THINK, STILL I AM FINDING EFFLUENTS FLOWING INTO THE RIVER !

FOR YOUR AWARENESS JUST CHECK THE SEWAGE WATER FROM DOMESTIC AS WELL AS INDUSTRIES ARE FLOWING FROM PALLIPALAYAM TO THE RIVER. !
