Thanjavur, Tiruchi, Karur – Districts witness rain

THANJAVUR: Thanjavur and Tiruvarur districts continued to experience intermittent rain on Sunday.

The two districts experienced heavy downpour on Saturday.

The amount of rainfall recorded in mm till 8 a.m. on Sunday was: Orathanadu 173, Thanjavur 168, Papanasam 134, Thiruvaiyaru 118, Papanasam 106, Kumbakonam 102, Thirukattupalli 100, Muthupettai 82, Tiruvarur 81, Madukkur 80, Needamangalam 80, Budalur 75, Peravurani 69, Mannargudi 57, Nannilam 43, Lower Anaicut 42, Thiruthuraipoondi 37 , and Grand Anicut 27.

Karur

Sunday passed off in Karur sans any rainfall but the sky remained dark and cloudy all through the day ushering in darkness even at noon. Sporadic drizzle greeted countryside in the district.

The climate coupled with the weekend forced a leisurely paced activity in the town that sported sheets of water on the ground after an overnight drizzle.

Traffic was at low ebb on the roads in the town.

Tiruchi

Various parts of the district continued to receive intermittent showers throughout the day on Sunday.

The sky remained overcast throughout the day.

The district registered an average 49.29 mm rainfall in the last 24 hours that ended at 8.30 a.m. on Sunday. Rainfall (in mm) recorded in the following places are as follows: Kallakudi 80.4; Nandhiyar Head 76; Ponmalai 73; Tiruchi Town 73; Tiruchi Airport 72.8; Pullambadi 70.8; Navalur Kuttapattu 64.6; Devimangalam 64.2; Thuraiyur 62; Tiruchi Junction 59.5; Lalgudi 55; Sirukudi 52; Pulivalam 51; Koppampatti 40; Samayapuram 35; Thathiengarpet 31; Marungapuri 30.4 and Vathalai Anaicut 25.4, an official press release here said.
