Nagercoil: Rain hits life

Nagercoil: Normal life in different parts of the district was affected following incessant rain accompanied by thunder on Friday.

Low-lying areas were flooded with rainwater and people living on the banks of major rivers were asked to move safer places. Public Works Department officials were asked to be prepared to meet any eventuality.

Sandbags and wooden logs were stocked to plug breaches if any, which could be occurred in future.

Four persons had a miraculous escape after the walls of their houses collapsed in the early hours of Friday.

Thangamani (55) of Manjadi near Periyavilai in Swamiyarmadam was sleeping in his house along with his wife Thankabai, his daughter, Geetha and his granddaughter, Pappa, when the wall of his house and roof collapsed. Revenue officials rushed to his house and moved them to safer place. The level in Pechipparai dam stood at 32.75 feet, 56.25 feet in Perunchani, 10.23 feet in Chittar I and 10.33 feet in Chittar II.
