Karnataka Tourism: KRS dam to get Rs 5 crore

MYSORE: The famed Brindavan Gardens in Krishnarajsagar Dam will get Rs 5 crore for its development and Nimishamba Temple in Srirangapatna Rs 50 lakh.

The tourism department is focusing on Mysore region to tap into the tourism potential for generation of employment and revenue.

Having released Rs 1 crore for creation/upgradation of facilities at the Brindavan Gardens, tourism minister G Janardhana Reddy granted the request of Srirangapatna MLA A B Ramesh Bandisiddegowda for additional funds to improve infrastructure to attract tourists. The funds will be provided this fiscal, he told the MLA after the launch of additional facilities at KRS and Srirangapatna’s KSTDC properties.

The KSTDC has extended facilities like additional rooms at Hotel Mysore Cauvery in KRS Dam and at Hotel Mayura River View at Srirangapatna, which is located on the banks of Cauvery river. The river view will get river rafting.

Launching the facilities to the visitors, Reddy said the focus is on tourism. There is a lot of scope here since this region has the potential in heritage tourism (Mysore and Srirangapatna), eco-tourism (Mysore, Kodagu and Chamarajnagar districts) and medical tourism. Referring to the rise in allocation of funds, he said this has allowed the department to concentrate on creation/upgradation of tourist infrastructure. He said Rs 50 crore will be allocated for development of roads connecting the tourist spots apart from the Rs 30 crore already released.

He explained that Rs 5 crore has been awarded for the Brindavan Gardens and Rs 75 lakh for development at Adichunchanagiri. Rs 2.5 crore is awarded for development of open space at Hanumanthnagar, some 15 km from Mandya. The Union government is also extending funds for creation of facilities at a park spread over 5 acres. Following the MLA’s request, Reddy pointed at the enhanced tourist budget and promised he will extend the funds for development of tourist spots in and around Srirangapatna.

Tourism director K Vishwanath Reddy, KSTDC chairman Seeraj Sheik and MD Vinay Lutra were present.
