Packaged water is a health hazard

Health experts have warned against use of recycled water bottles that may even contain contaminants like.

According to Dr Sudhakar Pandey, senior doctor, epidemical cell (CMO office), it is not just the quality of water filled but the condition in which it is filled and circulated in the trains is a health hazard.

“The water is collected and circulated at many points and there is every possibility that this unhygienic water may harm the digestive system,” he said. It can result in a number of infectious diseases like diarrhoea, amoebic dysentery and even typhoid.

It may be mentioned here that as per recent reports of Centre for Science and Environment (CSE), New Delhi, packaged water of many brands contains pesticides crossing the permitted pesticide limit in water. The report also indicates that these packaged water bottles contain harmful pesticides like lindane, DDT and malathion, enough to cause cancer, liver and kidney damage and disorders of nervous system.
